John Lamming Goddard was age 33 when he died on 12th April 1945. At the time he was serving in the 7th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. He was buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar, Burma Plot 20 Row J Grave 15.

“KILLED IN BURMA
The death is reported in Burma of Private Joseph Goddard, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, whose wife and daughter live in Wheeland (sic) Road, Knottingley and his parents at Lock Farm, Beal. He was 33 and worked for R.K.Poskitt, builder of Beal. He had been abroad about three years out of his four years in the Army.”

Family Life

John Lamming Goddard was born in the first quarter of 1912 and his birth was registered at Pontefract. His parents were John Goddard and Alice (nee Lamming) who had previously married on 16th April 1902 at St Andrews Church, Ferrybridge.
John Lamming Goddard married Hilda Ethel Green in the third quarter of 1938 and their marriage was registered at Pontefract.
