Search Help

Check that the spelling and spacing is correct. Capital letters do not matter, as the search page is not case sensitive.

If you wish to search for specific dates, you can do so by typing in dates in the formats YYYY-MM-DD, or YYYY. You can also enter YYYY-YYYY and the date range will be searched. If searching on date ranges you should select the 'Any Words' search option, otherwise only exact matches to your date range will be returned.

If you would like to display thumbnail images of returned results then ensure the 'Display Thumbnail images with results' option is checked. The page will load faster if this option is left unchecked.

If too many results are returned, you could try refining your search by using multiple keywords together. You can use multiple keywords and select the 'All Words' option to link the keywords you want to use and the search will only return pages where ALL the search words appear.

If too few or no results are found, you might benefit from consulting our Subject and Place name keyword listings. These include many of the actual words used in the creation of this database to help you define your search or find an alternative word to describe what you are looking for.

If you know the number of the photograph you wish to find, you can enter it directly into your browser after the URL address e.g. http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/WakefieldCMS/Pages/TAandC/ImageDetail.aspx?source=l00005
