Private Albert Bloomfield of the 9th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry service number 37680 was killed in action in France / Flanders on 9th April 1917. He was 40 years old.
The Wakefield Express for January 1916 mentions Private A Bloomfield of 12, Second Street, New Crofton as suffering from gas poisoning. Later under that heading it mentions his widow and two children. In the “In Memoriam” column it says he was “late of Walton”. The Wakefield Express for 12th May 1917, in the “Local heroes” list, shows a photo of Private Albert Bloomfield of New Crofton and KOYLI (killed).
He is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
