Alfred Haller was part of the 61st Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery when he died on 12th September 1943 age 27. He is buried at Catania War Cemetery, Sicily, Italy Plot II Row A Grave 39.

“SOLDIER’S DEATH
News has been received by Mrs N Haller of 18, Cherry Street, Pellon Lane, Halifax, that her husband Gnr Alfred Haller of the Royal Artillery (Field) has died in the 58th General Hospital as the result of a motor accident. Gnr Haller, who was with the Central Mediterranean Forces, was the younger son of Mr and the late Mrs William Haller of Racca Green, Knottingley. He was 27 years of age, and joined the Army in July 1939, and was evacuated from Dunkirk. He was posted abroad again in July last year and served with the M.E.F. in North Africa. Before joining the Forces Gnr Haller worked at Bagley’s Glassworks.”

Family Life

Alfred Haller was born on 8th July 1916 and baptised on 27th July 1916 at Christ Church, Knottingley. He was the son of William Haller and Annie (nee Bower), who had married in the third quarter of 1903 and this was registered at Pontefract.
