War Service
Alfred was Gunner 1831123 of the Royal Artillery 280 Bty, 49 Lt A A Regiment, who was killed aged 36 sometime between 1st December 1942 and 3rd December 1942.
Alfred was killed in North Africa and is remembered on the Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey. This memorial commemorates almost 3,500 men and women of the land forces who have no known grave, the circumstances of their death being such that they could not appropriately be commemorated on any of the campaign memorials in the various theatres of War.
On 24th June the Wakefield Express printed the following obituary:

Family Life
According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Alfred’s parents were Alfred and Emmie and his wife was called Phyllis Emily.
The Army Roll of Honour states that Alfred was born in Bolton and I found him in the 1911 census living with his parents Alfred and Emma at 86, Markland Hill Lane, Bolton. His father worked in the cotton mill and although Alfred and Emma said they had four children only 2 siblings – William aged 1 and Emma aged 2 months were living there at the time.
I found that Alfred Rogers married Phyllis E Hancock in the Wakefield District in 1938. I then searched the 1939 Register and found Alfred and Phyllis E Rogers living at 60, Barnes Avenue, Wrenthorpe. Alfred was a master tailor born 11th November 1906 and Phyllis was born 1st June 1912.
