“DIED OF WOUNDS
News has been received by Mr & Mrs J Moon of 16, Westfield Avenue, Knottingley that their son Pte Charles Moon of the Army Catering Corps has died of wounds while serving in the Central Mediterranean theatre of war. He has been abroad for over three years and before joining the Army in May 1940 worked with the Knottingley Ambulance Brigade. He has a daughter almost 3 years.
Older brother Pte George Moon has been a prisoner in Stalag XXA Germany since April 1940.”

Charles Moon was born in the second quarter of 1920 and his birth was registered at Pontefract, although he was registered as Charley. He was the son of John (Jack) Moon and Mary nee Lancelott, who had married in the third quarter of 1917.
