Area: Crofton
Regiment: King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Family information: Husband of Jane Thompson of 4 Garden Row, Crofton

War Service

Frederick Thompson served in the South African campaign. There is a discrepancy with his rank in that the Cock & Crown Memorial shows Frederick to be a Lance Corporal. He was buried in Leeds at the Leeds (Lawns Wood) Cemetery. This suggests that he was wounded, gassed or ill, returned home and died there at the age of 48.

Family Life

Frederick Thompson was born in 1867, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Thompson of Towcester, Northampton. At some point he married Jane and lived at Garden Row, Crofton. His son William also served in the First World War and died about six weeks before his father.
