The Wakefield Express of 16th September 1916 reported:
“Haslam, E. East Lancashire Regiment
CROFTON SOLDIER DIES OF WOUNDS
Mr A Hooley, newsagent, Slack Lane, Crofton has received official intimation of the death from wounds of Private E Haslam who lived with Mr Leggett, Slack Lane, Crofton. Deceased was 27 years of age and previous to joining the East Lancashire Regiment, he worked at Nostell Colliery.”
He is remembered at Basra War Cemetery.
