“DIED OF WOUNDS
Mrs Kathleen Woodhead, of 6 Jacksonville, Knottingley, has received word from the War Office that her husband Herbert Woodhead, who was a private in the Pioneer Corps, has died from gunshot wounds, the result of an accident in Western Europe on May 13th. He joined the Army in Oct., 1939, and went abroad last July. He was the third son of Mr & Mrs E Woodhead, of Beal Houses.”

Family Life

Herbert Woodhead was born in the fourth quarter of 1918 and his birth was registered at Selby. He was the son of Eli Woodhead and Eva (nee Penistone) who had married in the third quarter of 1908 and their marriage was registered at Goole.
In the first quarter of 1942 Herbert Woodhead married Kathleen Sunderland and their marriage was registered at Pontefract.
