Family Life
The Crofton parish records show that on 27th January 1902 Jesse, a 30 year old widower, married Mary Elizabeth Paish aged 22 years. He was a miner living at 12, Gladstone Terrace and she lived at Springhill. His father, also Jesse, was deceased – hers was Thomas whose profession was given as “scavenger”. Their witnesses were Arthur Swain and Elizabeth Collridge. It seems likely then that A/B Jesse Mountain was the third generation to bear the name “Jesse” and he must have been a five year old at the time of his father’s marriage to Mary.
