War Service

Jonah Rhodes was serving in 57 Squadron RAF(VR) when he died on 15th June 1945 age 25. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on Runnymede Memorial Panel 272.
Forces War Records online suggest his death was caused by an incident with 57 Squadron Bomber Command Lancaster III LE-R BP344. No known grave suggests that no body was recovered. VE day was celebrated 8 May 1945, so did hostilities continue?

Family Life

Jonah Rhodes was born on 17th December 1919 and was baptised at Christ Church, Knottingley on 18th January 1920. He was the son of Charles Rhodes, a labourer and Mary Jane (nee Parkes) who had married on 21st April 1919 at the same church. In the original parish register he has been recorded as George Rhodes but he actually signed his name Charles.
