Lance Corporal Thomas Hinchcliffe Berry, service number 201240 of the 2nd/4th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, died aged 23 on 12th May 1917. He was the son of Thomas and Clara Berry. He is remembered at the Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension.


Family Life


Thomas Hinchcliffe Berry and his family are shown in the census of 1901. Their address at that time was 7, Crown View, Crofton. Thomas had two brothers (James aged 10 and Jeffrey aged 5) and one sister (Wayong aged 2). In the 1911 census Wayong’s name had changed to Margaret and two further sisters had been born (Lois aged 8 and Nora aged 6). At some point after this the family moved to 1, Park View, Crofton.
