War Service


Thomas enlisted on 2nd September 1914 as 3/4075 in the 1st Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment at Wakefield. He embarked on 6th March 1915 and landed in France on 7th March 1915. He was killed in action in France/Flanders on 23rd April 1915 and is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres.

Family Life


Thomas Stoner was born in July 1870 in Halifax. He married Sarah Brooks in 1892 and had sons Joseph, Fred and Thomas and daughters Elizabeth and Edith. Unfortunately Sarah died in June 1912.
Thomas’ daughter Mrs Betty Capes continued to live in Crofton.
