War Service

Chief Petty Officer Trevor Russell Carrington was on board HMS Corunna when he died on 18th June 1947 aged 30 and he was buried in Goole Cemetery.
A report in Hull Daily Mail 19 June 1947 says:
“ Chief Petty Officer Trevor (Russell) Carrington of HMS Corunna - of Percy Street, Goole drowned in Chatham Docks when he fell overboard from HMS Kent. CPO Carrington was 30 years of age, and a native of Knottingley.”
Pontefract & Castleford Express 27 June 1947 p9 under Knottingley News:
“Chief Petty Officer Trevor Russell Carrington of Percy Street, Goole was drowned last week when he fell overboard from HMS Kent at the Chatham Dockyard. A native of Knottingley CPO Carrington was the youngest son of Mrs J H Jagger of Broomhill Avenue, Knottingley, and was educated at the National School, Knottingley. He joined the Navy 14 years ago and was serving on HMS Corunna at the time of his death. During the war he served in the Mediterranean and was on the cruiser Southampton when she was sunk, and later in the Far East where he was wounded. He was fond of sport and was an enthusiastic swimmer. He leaves a widow and one daughter.”
Note: Cruiser Southampton was sunk by dive-bombers east of Malta on 11th Jan 1941. 727 survivors were rescued and picked up by Cruiser Gloucester.

Family Life

Trevor Russell Carrington was born on 21st February 1917 and he was baptised on 22nd April 1917 at Christ Church, Knottingley. He was the son of Ethel J Carrington and the stepson of Mr J Jagger, who had married Ethel Carrington.
Trebor himself married Irene J Neville and their marriage was registered at Goole in the second quarter of 1940.
