A black and white photograph showing the opening ceremony of Wakefield Free Library on Drury Lane, Wakefield, on the 2nd of June 1906.  Mr Andrew Carnegie accompanied by the Mayor and other officials can be seen making a speech.  Carnegie donated £8,000 to build the library.  The Skidmore Library Collection of Wakefield books - now held at Balne Lane Library- was unveiled at the ceremony.  C.R.Wordsworth is in the invalid chair on the left.  Internal Reference: WR(LS)
