Robert enlisted into the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and was a Corporal when he died on 4th October. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial, France.
Family Life
Robert was born on 18th April 1881 in Pontefract and his parents were George and Louisa Lodge nee Clifton. Louisa’s parents were Thomas and Eliza Clifton nee Perry. George’s parents were Robert and Emma Lodge nee Whitfield.
His siblings were Helen, Walter (who married Janet Dale), Thomas (who married Kate Wilson), Louisa (who married William H Betts), Alice (who married Joe Willie Senior) and Amelia (who married Robert E Limbert).
In the 1891 census the family were living in Horsefair, Pontefract and in 1901 they were at Slaughterhouse Shop, Pontefract.
Robert married Nellie Shay and they had a daughter Doris in 1910. (Doris died, a spinster, in 1983). In 1911 they were living at Friar Wood, Pontefract.
