Family Life
I cannot find a civil registration for Albert Clifford Winter who would have been born around 1914. The Commonwealth War Graves show his age at death in 1942 to be 28.
Annie Winter was born 1895, the daughter of Arthur Winter and Sarah Elizabeth West, who married in 1892 and their marriage is registered at Goole. In 1911 census Annie Winter was a servant to a Farmer at North Elmsall. By 1912 she was in Ferrybridge, for in December that year Banns were read at St Andrews Church for Carter Lindley, a 42 year old widower and Annie Winter, then aged 17, but for some reason this marriage did not take place. However, they did marry in the fourth quarter of 1919 and this was registered at Pontefract.
Meanwhile Annie had four children:
Harold Winter born in the fourth quarter of 1913. He married Elsie Barnaby who was born in the third quarter of 1917.
Albert Clifford Winter. As there is no registration found for him, it is assumed that he was born around 1914 and he was killed in action in WW2.
Carter L Winter born in the fourth quarter of 1915. As Carter Lindley he married Hilda Copley in 1942.
Nellie L Winter born in the fourth quarter of 1918 married Thomas Lawrence Chapman in 1937.
After Annie Winter married Carter Lindley they had three more children:
Charles H Lindley born in the fourth quarter of 1921. He married Gladys K Tucker in the second quarter of 1942.
Arthur Lindley born in the fourth quarter of 1923 married Elsie Lee in the fourth quarter of 1947.
Phyllis Lindley born in the first quarter of 1930 married Ronald Betteridge in the third quarter of 1950.
Further evidence that Albert is the son of Annie Winter is shown in the 1936 -37-38 Electoral Rolls when they are recorded at The Basin, Ferrybridge. These registers show: Carter Lindley; Annie Lindley; Harold Winter; Albert Winter.
