War Service

Ambrose’s Military Service Record shows that as a 19 year 3 month old Apprentice Plumber he joined up at Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne on 5th November 1914. He joined the Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry as Private no 1372. He later transferred to the Military Mounted Police as Private no P15333. He joined the British Expeditionary Force in France on 20th March 1917 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 25th October 1917. He was killed in action on 25th August 1918. He is buried at Douchy-les-Ayette British Cemetery.

Family Life

Ambrose Warren was born in the second quarter of 1896 and his birth was registered at Heaton, Northumberland. He was the son of George Warren and his wife Mary Jane nee Lancaster. They had married in the first quarter of 1879 and their marriage was registered at Tynemouth.
In the 1911 census he was a Pattern Maker living at Heaton, Newcastle with his parents and siblings.
In 1919 his scroll etc was sent to George Warren at Wentcliffe Mill, Ferrybridge.
