“RAF SERGEANT MISSING
Mr and Mrs W Street of 3 High Street, Ferrybridge, have received official notification that their son Sergeant Cyril G Street, 20, of the RAF is missing from an operational flight over enemy territory. The notification said the plane was badly hit while over the target and the captain ordered the crew to prepare to abandon the craft. It then received another hit and turned over, and it is thought that Sergeant Street fell through a large hole, and he would escape by parachute. It is expected he will now be a prisoner of war. Sergeant Street was educated at the King’s School, Pontefract, and left five days before war was declared to become a cadet in the RAF. He was at one time a member of the Ferrybridge Church Choir.”
