War Service

Edwin Asher died on 11th May 1915. At the time he was in the Drake Battalion, Royal Naval Division which was part of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and he was KW/535 Able Seaman Asher. He was aged 22 when he died and he is remembered at the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli. The Helles memorial serves the dual function of Commonwealth battle memorial for the whole Gallipoli campaign and place of commemoration for many of those Commonwealth servicemen who died there and have no known grave.

Family Life

Edwin Asher was born in 1893 to parents Joseph and Eva Asher nee Gill. In 1911 they lived at Smythe Street and later moved to Newgate, Pontefract. His siblings were Alice, Clifford, Herbert and Joseph.
