“MISSING
Mrs H Thompson who is living with her parents at ‘Grasmere’ The Headlands, Knottingley, has received official notice that her husband Gunner H Thompson (RA) is reported as missing in the Middle East since June 20th. Before he joined up two years ago, he was employed at Jackson’s Glass Works.”

“HELD BY THE ITALIANS
Mrs H Thompson now of ‘Grasmere’ Headlands, Knottingley, and formerly of 63 Pinders Garth, Ferrybridge, has received official notification that her husband Gunner H Thompson of the Royal Artillery, who was reported missing on June 20th, is now a prisoner of war in Italian hands. Gunner Thompson was a well known resident of Ferrybridge. A member of the choir at St Andrew’s Church for seven years, he was also a keen sportsman, and played football and cricket with Brown’s Sports Club. Before joining the Army he worked at the Knottingley glassworks of Messrs Jackson Bros. He is 24 years old.”
