John Robert Norton joined the 2/4th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry as a Private with the service number 37684. He died, aged 19, on 6th January 1918. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website states that he was the son of Betsy Ann Norton of Broughtons Yard, Doncaster Road, Ferrybridge. He is buried at Roclincourt Military Cemetery.

John Robert Norton was born in 1898 at Ferrybridge and was the son of James Robert and Betsy Ann Norton nee Charlton. They had married in the fourth quarter of 1897 and their marriage was registered at Patrington, Yorkshire. In the 1911 census he was living at Broughtons Yard, Ferrybridge with his parents and siblings.
