Sydney Wake joined the 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers with the service number 23492. He died on 21st June 1918 and is buried in the Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria., grave 264.

“On June 23 in the 4th General Hospital, Salonica, from malaria etc, Private Sydney Wake, son of Mr & Mrs George Wake, the Sycamores, Ferrybridge.”
The www.roll-of-honour.com shows that he was born in Ferrybridge, enlisted in Pontefract and died in the Mediterranean.

Family Life

Sydney was born on 21st March 1898. He was the son of William George Wake and his wife Alice nee Kelly. They had married in the first quarter of 1881 and this was registered at Pontefract.
In the 1911 census Sydney was shown to be a Barber’s Assistant. He was living at Fishergate with his parents and siblings.
