War Service

Private William Harrison Watson was part of the 1/17th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) when he died aged 19 on 12th April 1918. At the time his mother, Annie Watson, was living at Station Road, Ferrybridge.
He was buried at Le Grand Beaumart British Cemetery, Steenwerck.
Steenwerck remained untouched for much of the First World War, but on 10th April 1918 it was captured during the German advance and remained in their hands until the beginning of October. The original cemetery was made by fighting units and field ambulances in April and October 1918 and contained 55 graves.

Family Life

William Harrison Watson was born in the second quarter of 1899 and his birth was registered at Goole. His parents were William Herbert and Ann Elizabeth Watson nee Harrison, who had married in the first quarter of 1898 and again, this was registered at Goole.
In the 1911 census he was recorded as living at Haldenby House, Ferrybridge with his parents.
